About the Role

Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:
The Associate General Counsel will be an integral part of the legal team, working closely with the Senior Vice President & Deputy General Counsel and broader legal department to advise LA28’s senior management on legal matters. This position will leverage negotiation, relationship-building, critical-thinking and communication skills to support the legal needs for the commercial and marketing teams of the organization, with a focus on intellectual property matters, including sponsorship agreements, licensing arrangements, marketing and content-creation support, live event and ceremonies contracting and advising, and rights protection work.

This position will report to the Senior Vice President & Deputy General Counsel.

Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a legal advisor to the Chief Legal Officer and SVP & Deputy General Counsel, senior management and division heads on identified commercial transactions and legal matters.
Steady stream of self-directed analytical work, meetings, decision-making and drafting, including preparing, reviewing and negotiating all varieties of legal documents including but not limited to sponsorship agreements, licensed product agreements, other intellectual property licenses, corporate governance documents and other legal memoranda and correspondence.
Assist with the management of communications and relationships with LA28’s business and strategic partners.
Lead the anti-ambush work of the legal department to protect LA28’s trademark, copyright, domain name and social media portfolio, including through supervising junior attorneys and legal support staff in connection with monitoring external usage of trademarks and copyrighted content to identify IP infringements and counterfeits online and in brick-and-mortar marketplaces, and preparation of cease and desist letters, take down notices, assertions of infringement, and related correspondence and legal action.
Help establish legal team policies, procedures, and standard operating practices.
Work closely with individual departments to anticipate, identify and manage legal exposure and risk management.
Review and understand all relevant corporate / stakeholder documents (including the Host City Contract, Olympic Charter, Code of Ethics, etc.).
Supervise, monitor and assist in the career development of all subordinate attorneys and paralegals.
Work with and supervise outside counsel on matters requiring representation.
Ensure compliance with applicable international, federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Keep current on industry-wide legal trends and developments.
Perform significant projects / duties as assigned by the SVP & Deputy General Counsel.
