About the Role
Essential Job Duties
Provide legal counsel and guidance to senior executives and upper management on all legal matters including corporate governance, intellectual property, marketing and advertising laws, league and federation rules and regulations, and employment matters.
Prepare, draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including sponsorship agreements, vendor agreements and licensing arrangements.
Work closely with Human Resources on employment matters including employment agreements, employee benefits and employment law compliance.
Develop template documents, compliance procedures and policies to ensure efficient management of legal matters.
Advise management in contract disputes and risk management matters.
Retain and manage outside counsel, as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the club CEO and senior management.
About the Company
Reporting to the CEO, this position manages all legal services for the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns to ensure legal/league compliance and strong business outcomes. This position will provide advice on a range of substantive legal areas and draft and negotiate a wide variety of contracts. The successful candidate will have experience as a generalist, with a focus on commercial and business transactions. Previous experience at both a law firm and in-house is required, and experience with sports and/or entertainment clients is a plus.
