About the Role

Responsibilities:

Structure, draft, negotiate and review property management and leasing agreements, and other customary retail real estate documents and contracts
Address issues regarding real estate leases, acquisitions, dispositions, design, construction and financing
Responsible for the management, coaching and development of in-house attorney and/or paralegal team members
Negotiate directly with opposing parties to resolve existing, ongoing, or anticipated issues.
Advise the Real Estate Team and actively participate in the resolution of real estate related legal issues and disputes.
Provide legal support on compliance issues and general contract matters
Conduct documentation research of rights, obligations and restrictions contained in existing leases, reciprocal easement agreements and other complex property agreements, and provide both technical and practical analysis and recommendations to internal clients concerning legal issues, including preparation of documentation necessary to secure third party approvals
Represent the company in negotiations, hearings, and other forums
Develop strong partnership with executive management, senior management from other corporate departments, distribution centers, stores and their vendors
Represent all Academy departments and locations on enterprise-level issues both internally and externally
Partner with business clients to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully and maintain confidentiality
Develop standardized processes and procedures for the organization in identified practice area(s)
Develop and manage policies and procedures regarding governance and compliance, including development of appropriate form documents and clauses
Review, recommend and manage outside counsel to represent Academy in legal matters
Assist with annual budget submissions for identified practice area(s)
Operate within constraints of the financial budget for assigned practice area(s)
Identify and develop projects spanning other corporate departments, distribution centers, stores and their vendors
Identify and implement growth strategies and process improvements across multiple areas
Develop a thorough understanding of Academy policies, procedures and safety rules
Responsibilities may change; team members may be required to perform additional responsibilities and other tasks, as assigned
