Providing legal expertise on the following matters:
NBA Compliance: Manage and maintain compliance with all NBA rules and regulations, including the constitution and by-laws, operations manual, playing rules, collective bargaining agreement, as well as timely responsiveness to various league-issued memoranda and other ad hoc materials.
Player Contracts: Draft, execute, and file all player contracts, agreements, and notices, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Additionally, allocating dedicated research on player contracts throughout the league—analyzing language, structure, and general trends.
Trade Administration: Upon agreeing to terms, execute all trade-related information, procedures, and protocols, working with relevant parties at the league office and counterparts from other teams to facilitate smooth transactions.
Medical Administration: Collaborate with the Human & Player Performance pillar, as needed, on medical aspects of player transaction procedures and protocols.
Public Announcements: Collaborate with the Communications & Engagement pillar on public announcements related to player transactions.
Immigration Solutions: Navigate the intricacies of the visa application process for players and staff. Ensure that all documentation is accurately completed and submitted within established timelines.
Insurance Solutions: Collaborate with the team’s business staff and insurance providers to secure any necessary player and team-related coverage.
Vendor Agreements: Review and approve third-party vendor agreements within basketball operations, safeguarding the team’s interests.
Outside Counsel: Work with outside counsel to acquire subject-matter expertise and guidance when necessary.
Human Resources & Payroll: Collaborate with HR & Payroll to file all player contracts, contractor, and vendor agreements, ensuring accurate and compliant documentation.
Preseason Scheduling: Collaborate with the Logistics & Engagement pillar to review agreements for preseason games.
Team Compliance: Oversee and ensure adherence to all team rules, updating and developing policies and procedures as necessary.
Staff Issues: Counsel and management on player and staff-related matters upon assignment.
Staff On-Boarding: Administer training sessions to educate new hires on rules and protocols specific to their pillar and function.
Interfacing with NBA League Office: Curate and nurture relationships at the NBA league office, notably the legal and salary cap departments.
