About the Role

Position Summary:

The NBA Legal Department provides advice and counsel with respect to the League's activities and businesses on a global basis. The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association jointly maintain and administer a comprehensive Anti-Drug Program (the Program) for NBA players to detect and deter drug use by players, and to provide treatment and counseling for those who are struggling with a substance abuse problem.

The Program Legal Assistant will be responsible for supporting NBA attorneys' administration of the Program, including by reviewing and updating educational materials for players, ensuring team compliance with distribution of materials relating to the Anti-Drug Program, sending correspondence to Program Medical Directors, maintaining up-to-date files and collecting and organizing data relating to historical Program information. The Legal Assistant will also provide support for drug testing of coaches, athletic trainers, and referees, as well as similar programs in the NBA G League and WNBA.

Major Responsibility:

Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date files on all Program participants.
Assist drug testing service providers with collecting team staff and player contact information from teams and addressing any issues with contacting players.
Collect and organize information related to drug testing, medical reviews and test results across the player, coach/athletic trainer and referee populations.
Coordinate correspondence to Program Medical Directors related to medical reviews and test results.
Review, update and develop educational materials (e.g., presentations given by the Medical Directors, brochures and FAQs regarding the Program).
Track team compliance with respect to distribution of educational materials and other notifications related to the Program.
Assist with compiling names for the testing pool for, and coordinating training-camp drug testing of, coaches and athletic trainers.
Support attorneys in drafting memos related to the Program for distribution to teams.
Review invoices from third party service providers (e.g., drug testing service providers, labs).
