Job Description:
The Senior Counsel role is an integral part of the Legal department and will assist the General Counsel with a broad range of legal and compliance matters. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and critical thinking skills and demonstrate curiosity and creativity, with the ability to break down complex concepts and clearly frame issues for non-lawyers. This position requires excellent business judgment, strategic thinking, and adept problem-solving, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and a keen eye for detail are essential.

This full-time position reports to the Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and is based in Golden Valley, MN.

Responsibilities:
Provide legal and business counsel to all departments in the Club
Draft, review, negotiate and interpret a wide variety of commercial contracts in the areas of sponsorship, events, ticketing, premium seating, technology, marketing, and stadium operations
Understand the Club and its business in order to identify and mitigate risks, develop solutions and negotiate effectively
Advise and assist on advertising and marketing initiatives such as sweepstakes, contests and promotions, draft rules and releases, and review promotional and creative materials
Draft and update a wide variety of contract templates for use by internal stakeholders
Draft, review and manage waivers/releases for events and programming activities
Develop a deep understanding of Club’s risk mitigation and insurance practices, assist with insurance matters in coordination with the Club’s insurance advisors, draft insurance-related contractual provisions and review COIs
Ensure compliance with privacy and data protection laws and regulations
Analyze and monitor relevant League rules, regulations, directives, and governance documents
Develop and conduct educational trainings for MNUFC employees on relevant legal and compliance matters
Provide guidance on intellectual property matters
Formulate, implement, monitor and review Club policies and procedures to identify the need for development or changes protect and serve the Club’s legal interests
Identify opportunities to improve business processes and devise plans to implement changes
Help facilitate the day-to-day operations and workload of an in-house Legal Department

The Senior Counsel position is part of Minnesota United FC’s Legal Department and will provide cross-functional legal support to the Club, reporting directly to the General Counsel. Minnesota United FC (MNUFC) is located in the Twins Cities area of Minnesota and is a member of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top tier soccer league in North America.
