About the Role
Who are we hiring?
Reporting to the SVP Legal & Business Affairs this position partners closely with and provides legal advice and counsel to SVP People Investment and VP Benefits on all compensation and benefits matters, including health and welfare plans, deferred compensation plans, retirement plans, executive compensation matters and a variety of other issues arising under ERISA and other federal, state and local laws. Also works closely with other internal stakeholders.
What will you do?
Effectively advise on the best approaches for managing compensation and benefits risk and avoid unexpected costs.
Advise on the intricacies of FMLA, COBRA, and related state and local leave rules that apply to employers.
Counsel and prepare deferred compensation arrangements, including advising on section IRC 409A, 457A and 457(f)
Advise about rights and obligations under existing agreements, including analyzing legal issues and researching such issues in order to identify the best strategic options for the business unit.
Provide legal interpretation of plan documents and ensure plans are complying with ERISA.
Negotiate and review services agreements for compensation and benefits providers.
Assist with Investment and Benefits Committee matters, including minutes, agendas, and follow up action items.
Supervise outside counsel, when necessary, on complex compensation, health and welfare matters.
Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
