About the Role

POSITION OVEEVIEW:

Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment Real Estate is seeking an attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate has a juris doctorate degree in addition to 6-10 years of experience, preferably in acquisition, financing and development of large-scale mixed-use development projects, and is able to manage complex projects and drive day to day functionality while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility. The company is comprised of exceptionally talented professionals who are dedicated to a common long‐term objective of developing real estate that improve communities around sports and entertainment venues. The professional will be part of the HBSE Legal team and work closely with HBSE’s Real Estate team to oversee the legal, risk and compliance affairs of HBSE’s real estate projects.

REPORTING

This position reports to the EVP, General Counsel of HBSE.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

Specific responsibilities include:

Participate as an integral member of both the HBSE Legal Department and the HBSE Real Estate team
In close coordination with the HBSE Real Estate team and HBSE ownership and management, lead the day-to-day legal affairs of HBSE’s growing real estate platform, including acquisition and disposition, financing and restructuring, development, joint ventures, land use and leasing
Manage the drafting, negotiation, review and/or administration of transaction documentation across the HBSE real estate portfolio, including purchase and sale agreements, development agreements, joint venture agreements, loan documentation, leases, construction management agreements, design consultancies, vendor agreements, etc.
Manage all outside counsel performing work for HBSE Real Estate, from engagement to project completion, including relationship management in re: billing and fees
Advise on proper legal structuring for entitlement, incentive program participation and tax considerations for HBSE Real Estate projects
Manage litigation matters and strategy affecting HBSE Real Estate in tandem with HBSE Risk Management leaders, including coordination with outside counsel and insurance carriers, as applicable.
Advise on organizational and corporate matters (such as interpretation of governing documents) relating to HBSE Real Estate
Contribute to HBSE Real Estate business strategy development and implementation
Assist in developing and maintaining business guidelines/policies for HBSE Real Estate, including employment policies and risk management, as part of larger HBSE policy program
Provide other support to HBSE’s legal, risk, governmental relations and compliance functions, as needed
Partner with HBSE Legal and HBSE Human Resources regarding employee issues, training, policies, benefit programs, compliance with applicable employment laws, and similar matters.
