It’s been seven years since minor league baseball players sued MLB for back pay, with the class action finally scheduled to go to trial on June 1, 2022. The adversaries each asked a federal judge Friday to preempt the trial and unilaterally rule in their favor, a standard legal practice at this stage, with each party filing voluminous motions and exhibits to argue its case.
Deep within those filings, the players quote an unlikely source to buttress their case that minor leaguers are exploited by MLB: a tweet from New York Mets owner Steve Cohen.
