MLBPA will fight to preserve 2024 free agency for Ohtani, Alonso if service time lost from work stoppage

Mar 3, 2022

If the lockout stretches 15 days into the regular season, New York Mets' star Pete Alonso will lose enough service time to see his free agency pushed back to 2025. (Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty are the only other players in similar situations).

The good news for Alonso is that the Players Association does not intend to allow that to happen.
