The Washington Nationals have released third baseman Starlin Castro following the completion of his 30-game suspension over an alleged domestic violence incident, sources told The Athletic's Brittany Ghiroli on Thursday.

The league handed down the suspension on July 30 after an investigation into the allegations against Castro. Commissioner Rob Manfred said he had concluded that "Mr. Castro violated our (Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse) Policy and that discipline is appropriate."

The Nationals said at the time they would release Castro after he had served his suspension.
