New York State Trial Lawyers Association files amicus brief in support of ex-Knick Charles Oakley's assault lawsuit appeal

The New York State Trial Lawyers Association urged the Second Circuit to reinstate former NBA star Charles Oakley’s assault and battery claims against Knicks owner James Dolan, saying the trial court erred by dismissing the suit without allowing discovery.

The lower court’s finding that security guards used reasonable force when they removed Oakley from Madison Square Garden was “based solely on a subset of videos self-servingly chosen” by Dolan and the MSG defendants for the court to review, the NYSTLA said in a proposed friend of the court brief filed Monday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
