New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays turn Twitter feeds over to gun violence awareness

May 27, 2022

In the wake of Tuesday's elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 children and two teachers dead, the sports world has responded with several high-profile figures speaking out against the violence, as well as teams offering a moment of silence before their games to mourn the victims.

With the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays set to begin a four-game series in St. Petersburg, Florida, the two teams' social media accounts came up with a unique way to call attention to the issue.

Instead of tweeting information related to Thursday night's game, the Yankees and Rays instead teamed up on Twitter to "offer facts about the impacts of gun violence."
