The first shoe to drop in Oakland: A's let manager Bob Melvin leave for Padres without compensation

The perfect man to manage the A’s won’t be managing the A’s in 2022 because the Padres were smart enough to lure him to San Diego and away from what could be a messy offseason and messier next couple of seasons in Oakland.

The news came down Thursday night when Padres beat writer AJ Cassavell of mlb.com reported Bob Melvin struck a three-year deal after A’s management first let him interview with the Padres and then let him out of his A’s contract without compensation.
